QuestionI have a dish garden and the kalanchoe that is in front is past bloom. How should I trim it?
thanks for your help.
AnswerHi Debbie,
Trim off the flower stems at the point where they emerge from the leaves.
If the new growth is leggy and spindly, then the new growth can be cut back to where the original larger leaves are. Kalanchoes usually like more light and drier soil than the other plants put in dish gardens. New Kalanchoe growth is thinner and smaller in reduced light.
Kalanchoes are "short-day" plants, meaning that they require 12-16 hours of darkness for 6-8 weeks to set buds and flower again.
