QuestionMy question is about blooming; (I have an Anthurium that blooms red. It is a six to eight inch clay rose pot. It sits in an east facing window.) For a few months after purchase, I regularly cut the blooms. I would leave one or two on the plant. Then about four months ago, I cut the last two blooms. My plant has yet to rebloom. I try to throughly water the plant about every ten days or so. I fertilize with normal Miracle Grow once a month to every six weeks. So, my very drawn out question is, -Do Anthuriums have a blooming season or am I missing something? Also, a little more information: I have not, repotted it since I purchased it. The room has a ceiling fan. Perhaps two leaves have a touch of brown on the very tiny tips.
Thank you,
Anna
AnswerHi Anna,
Like many tropical flowering plants, Anthuriums do not have a specific blooming time. They can flower at any time of the year, just like an African violet or a peace lily.
However, that does not mean that your Anthurium will bloom constantly all year long. Typically, they put out a bunch of flowers for a month or two and then they rest for several months before flowering again. Predicting just when they will re-flower is nearly impossible.
To encourage flowering, keep it tightly potted - no need to repot yours - and provide lots of bright indirect light. Your watering and fertilizing regimen seems appropriate.
The fan is actually helpful as it mimics natural breezes. The very limited amount of brown on the tips that you described is not significant.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
