QuestionHi Will,
I purchased a schleffera hawaiiain umbrella tree a few weeks ago that is verigated with some yellow. I have it in a sunroom in front of a south window. The sunroom it is situated in also has a southeast window, an east window, a northeast window and 3 north windows. The room is bright all day. I've just noticed that the small baby leaves have slight browning on the edges and some of the leaves are turning really yellow. Also, I've just noticed a few leaves falling off but not necessarily the yellow ones. Is the plant getting too much light or not enough or is it a water problem? Please help as I just love this beautiful ornamental tree. Thank you so much. Liz
AnswerHi Liz,
Your variegated Schefflera arboricola may be getting too much light if it is right in front of a south window. A north or east exposure would be better.
Allow the top quarter of the soil to dry out in between thorough waterings. If your tap water is on the hard side, then use filtered or distilled water.
Some of the symptoms you described may be nothing more than the usual adjustment of the plant to its new environment.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
