QuestionHi,
I have a 15 yr. old stephanotis plant, it has bloomed only once. It is in a large pot,a foot across and a foot and a half high, never repotted. It is a real beauty lots of leaves, but I keep it outside on the deck, during the summer and bring it in around Aug.15th, it starts to loose it's leaves in a few weeks, turns yellow and looks awful. What may the problem be? How oftern should I be watering it in the house and does it require feed. I feed it all summer.
Thanks you for any info you may give me.

AnswerHi Sallie,
Stephanotis floribunda (Madagascar jasmine) is best grown on a trellis or wire frame. It is difficult to maintain indoors.
In the fall and winter it needs cool temps (60 to 65 degrees) and soil that is allowed to get quite dry just barely enough to keep it from wilting. Do not fertilize during this winter rest period. This cool dry environment will help promote flowers for the following spring and summer.
It does best right in a sunny east or west window year round. Resume normal watering, keeping the soil evenly moist, in March when buds appear.
Never move or repot this plant when buds are forming. Only use lime-free, non-alkaline water. Temps of 65 to 75 degrees are best in the spring and summer.
