Repotting question

Question
I just bought a Massangeana Cane plant, I would like to know if I should re-plant it now (put it in a larger pot).  It is a premium Foliage 10in.
23 GAL (8.6L).

Answer
Hi Yvonne,

I am SO GLAD you asked me that before you went ahead and did it! It is very rare that I am asked that question, as it is generally believed (falsely) that plants always like more room for their roots. Unnecessary repotting is the single most common mistake that plant owners make and the most common cause of plant problems.

Newly acquired plants should never be repotted for at least 3 months or until they have had time to adapt to their new environment. That adjustment is more than enough stress for them without having to undergo the stress of repotting, which is the plant equivalent of surgery.

I have written an article on repotting that I will send to you (or anyone else), if you send a request for it to me at my address below. It explains everything there is to know about when to and when not to and how to repot. The information may surprise you.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.

If this information has been helpful, please take the time to give me a rating and nomination.
