QuestionThe branches and needles of my 2 pines are turning brown. I believe the trees are in the correct size pot according to your advice to another writer. The pines are located in a solarium but most of the direct summer sun is avoided with an awning. I read that I should keep the plant moist and water once a week but I just saw some small white mushrooms growing in the soil, so I may be watering too much. Outside of cutting the water, is there anything else I can do?
AnswerHi Donna,
I am not sure what advice of mine you read, but it might not be applicable.
How tall is your pine? What is the diameter of the inside of the pot? Does it have drainage holes? When was it last repotted?
Please describe which branches have needles that are browning. How extensive is this problem?
How moist is the soil after a week?
Mushrooms are not necessarily a sign of overwatering, so cutting back may not be a good idea.
Can you email some photos to me at
