QuestionI was over at my friend's today, and she has a hibiscus plant in a 8-10 inch pot. About a foot and a half tall. It has white flies on it, she was wondering what she should do. She had it indoors, but when she noticed the flies she put it outside. It gets plenty of sun, and is blooming better since it has been outside. It looks great, just the fly problem.
AnswerHi Constance,
Hibiscus' are magnets for white flies. Hose it off outside with a pretty forceful spray. This will knock the adults loose and off the plant. Bring it inside immediately before they have a chance to come back.
Inside, spray the entire plant until it is dripping wet with a solution of rubbing alcohol added to 5 parts of water and a squirt of liquid soap.
That usually does the trick, but a second treatment might be unnecessary if any white flies return.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
