dracaena massangeana cane plant

Question
we have 2 of these plants, both in the same pot. we have already moved them to a bigger pot and they are doing well. the "trunk" of this plant has 4 new sprouts and the other has 3 new sprouts growing out of it, we wanted to know how we could either cut off or re root or cut the trunk itself and replant that to give it a fuller look. is this possible or which is the best way to go about cutting or tranplanting or re-rooting these plants?
thanks!!

Answer
Raquel,

It is best done in the spring but I have been successful this time of year.  First, buy some rooting hormone at a garden center at Lowes or Home Depot or another garden center. It comes in a small bottle and is a powder.

Cut the side shoots or the trunk off with a sharp knife, remove lower leaves, dip the cutting in the rooting powder getting it up past the first 2 leaf joints then make a hole in the soil with a stick where you would like the cutting to grow and insert it. Then press the soil firmly against the base of the cutting. If it is not stable you can stake it with a twig.  Water it as you normallly would. Your cuttings should root within 3-4 weeks. You have a 75 % chance that this will be successful. Good luck.
