QuestionI was given a couple of Bouganvilea cuttings a month ago. Seeing your site now I know what I should have done, but what I did do was put them in water. Most of the old leaves are gone, but they have new baby leaves both above & under the water. The stems also have a lot of short white little nubs under water that I assume are roots getting started. Can I keep them in water or should I transfer them to dirt? And if I transfer them to dirt when & how should I do it?
AnswerLaura,
Are they 2 of the same kind? If so I would wait about 7-10 days and let those nubs grow a bit then I would pot one up in soil in a 3-4 inch pot. Let the other one go in water since it is doing okay until the first one is stable in soil then pot up the second one.
Use a good quality of potting soil and mix some sand in with it about 50/50. You can buy sand at most garden centers as play sand. Keep them in a very sunny location and the transplant should be stable in the soil as soon as you see signs of further growth. Good luck.
