QuestionWhy is my new schefflera dropping leaves? Too much water or not enough light? Also, re: ivy and pothos both in 6 inch pots - when should I water them? Thank you very much. Virginia
AnswerHi Virginia,
You are very succinct. I could be more helpful if you were to provide me with more information about your plants.
In general, Schefflera arboricolas must be in front of a north or east window where they get lots of bright indirect light all day long with a few hours of direct sun. It is best to keep them in their original pots and then allow the top third of the soil to dry out in between waterings. If you repotted into a larger pot, then you are going to have a lot of problems.
Hedera ivies need more sun than Pothos. Also, keep both of them in their original pots. Both should be watered when the top half-inch of soil is dry. The Hedera ivy is much more sensitive to improper watering, so be careful to avoid occasional watering lapses with it. The Hedera is also very prone to spider mite infestations, so be alert for that.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
