QuestionGreetings,
Thank you so much for your help with identifying my plant. You were 100% right on and it has grown so well since we last communicated. I read up on it and followed your advice and the plant looks great. (Dracaena marginata tri-color) I do however, have another question. Because the leaves are getting longer and longer I see bends in the leaf, (I assume from the weight?) Yet some of the leaves are not bent. I was wondering if you had any feelings as to whether this is harmful for the plant? Perhaps too much water, light could be doing it? I really appreciate your help again!
Sincerely,
Joseph d'Auguste
AnswerJoseph,
I think you may have hit the nail on the head. The leaves may be extra long because it is trying to have enough surface to absorb more light. Try putting it in a brighter location, maybe even a little sun in the morning. There are some huge very old Dracaena marginata's in the world that grow in the ground outdoors in full sun. Look up Dragon trees in Google and click on images and you can see pictures of some. Many are in the Canary Islands off the coast of Spain.
I would also cut back on the water a bit and the leaf won't be quite as bendy. Let it dry out a bit more between waterings. It really won't hurt for the leaves to be bendy except as the tree ages you mmay loose those leaves first. Good luck.
