QuestionI have an indoor 8" ivy that is doing well in a sunny window except for the leaves are begining to turn pink almost like an oak would do in the fall, but this has been happening for severalmonths now. Do you know what could cause this?
AnswerHi Andrea,
I am assuming that your ivy is a Hedera or English ivy. If so, then too much direct sun is the most likely cause of the pinkish tinge on the leaves. The leaves may also become more pale, as well. Protect the ivy from hot direct sun by moving it to the side of the window, back from the window or partially covering the window with a sheer or partially close blinds.
Another, less likely, possibility is a nutrient deficiency cause by improper soil pH. If your local tap water is on the hard or alkaline side, then switch to filtered, distilled or rainwater.
Already discolored leaves will not return to their original color, but new growth should have a normal color once the problem is corrected. You may want to prune back some of the vines that have many discolored leaves.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
