Re potting

Question
Hi Darlene!
I've just repotted a healthy "Money Tree" with a braided trunk for indoors.  (It gets tons of light, and seems to have been happy in its previously tiny tightly-packed pot, but I was told repotting is better in the long run).  I used Miracle Gro potting soil and gave it plenty of room in the new pot.  I soaked it and then watered with a gallon of water mixed with one Tablespoon of B-1 to prevent shock.  How often should I water with B-1? When do I stop using it? Is the ratio right? Am I doing this all correctly?  I really love this tree and don't want to lose it.
Thanks for your time!
Stan

Answer
Stan,

How long have you owned this tree? You didn't say how large a pot you moved it from and too. The new pot should not have a diameter more than 2 inches larger than the old one, 4 inches at the absolute most. If you put it in a pot more than 4 " larger than the old one you need to move it to a smaller pot now. In the future you should only repot from April 15th to July 15th. After that the days are getting shorter and it is harder on the plant. The B1 ratio is fine. After the initial soaking you can stop the B-1.  Keep the soil lightly moist but do not allow it to be soggy, the roots will rot. In the future when you repot mix extra perlite in with the Miracle Gro potting soil at a ratio of 2 parts  Miracle Gro potting soil to 1 part perlite. Good luck.

Darlene
