QuestionI have a new ivy houseplant in 4-inch pot. Its leaves are becoming brittle and falling off. I water it when the soil is kind of dry. I have moved it aound the house (ony indirect light). Live in Missouri, air conditioning 70-80 F at all times.
Can you also tell me how to care for a jade plant, i.e., amount of water, light, temperature? Does it need lots of drainage, like a small pot, etc.? THANKS
AnswerHi Janet,
Hedera ivies need a stable environment - one in which their roots are undisturbed and they are not moved around much and they are watered consistently.
Keep you ivy in a place where it gets bright indirect light all day with a few hours of direct sun, as well. Right on a north or east windowsill would be best.
Water it thoroughly as soon as the top half-inch of soil feels dry.
The temperature range you reported is fine. Watch out for spider mites, which love ivies. They appear as little dust-like particles on the undersides of leaves. If you find any, let me know and I will send you treatment instructions.
Jades need as much direct light as possible. They do best in small pots and rarely need repotting. Water thoroughly and allow the soil to dry out halfway down into the pot between waterings. Jades can withstand temps from 40 to 90 degrees.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
