Question -
Hello, I was reading about how plants produce carbon dioxide when there is no light. I was wondering if it is safe for me to sleep in a room full of plants. I have put the plants there for the purpose of cleaning the air in my room.

Thanks, Sean Payne

Answer -
Sean,

Where did you read about how plants produce carbon dioxide when there is no light????

Nasa did a study on houseplants and found that they breath in carbon dioxide and expell pure oxygen. In the process many plants clean the air in the room as long as they are not overwatered. When overwatered they can produce mold.

Plants (including trees) are very important in solving the global warming problem. The abundance of greenhouse gasses includes a lot of carbon dioxide that needs converted to oxygen by plants and trees. Mankind has cut down a lot of hardwood forests and rain forests in the name of progress and we have messed up our planet in the process. Enough of my soapbox, I believe that plants in your bedroom are very safe and I have several in mine.

If you want to give me the source of your information I would be interested in reading it. Good luck.

Answer
Sean,

That's news to me! More changes and problems caused by global warming. Seems global warming may actually be changing the nature of plants.

Personally I will keep my plants in my bedroom. The way I understand all that is that happpens as a result of excessive heat and the already high amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.  I found the sites confusing and I am not moving my plants until more studies have been done and the scientists give warning.

I still believe that plants are an answer to the problem of global warning. Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer. Good luck.

Darlene
