Question
will,
i have 6 verigated schefflera plants growing in an 8" pot. this plant was neglected and needs to be repotted. how can i successfully separate and transplant each individual plant?jbnrq
AnswerHi Scott,
The variegated Schefflera arboricolas were planted together for a reason. They are relatively small plants and they create a larger, more compact plant when potted together. Separated they will not grow all that much larger and they will tend to look rather puny as individual plants.
You can separate them, but it is a risky proposition as it requires stressing the roots when you cut through them to disentangle them. Again, I advise against it.
Neglected plants do not need repotting. They need proper light and water and perhaps pruning, but not fertilizer or repotting, which should be reserved for healthy, vigorously growing plants.
Arboricolas do best in very bright indirect light with a couple of hours of direct sun. In front of an east or north window would be best. Allow the top quarter of the soil to dry out in between through waterings, but err on the side of dryness.
Be patient, as it takes neglected plants a long time to recover.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
