QuestionHi,
What do I use to fertilize my bromeliads? I just buy them from Home Depot and after a few months they fade. I want to replant them in pots. Thank you!
Judy
AnswerHi Judy,
Fertilizer is over-rated generally and Bromeliads are not heavy feeders. In fact, they can easily be damaged if they are over-fertilized. If you do use fertilizer, use any standard fertilizer but use it at quarter strength and no more than monthly. Keep in mind that fertilizer should never be used on ailing plants, as it is not medicine.
If you can provide me with more details about your "fading" Bromeliads, I can probably give you some care instructions that will address the problem, which fertilizer does not. A photo sent to me at
[email protected] will help. Tell me what light is available to your Bromeliads and how and when you water. Are they not now planted in pots? If not, are they attached to a wood slab?
There are many different Bromeliad species and their cultural requirements are unusual. There are also a lot of misinformed ideas about their proper care.
I look forward to hearing back from you so i can better assist you.
