QuestionThere are no available insecticidal soap that is commercially sold in our locality (Benguet, Philippines)to treat spider mites which reproduce rapidly. I believe there are household soap/detergents that could be substituted. Could you please identify the common active ingredients of insecticidal soaps? thanks a lot.
AnswerPlease tell me what you found lacking in my answer to you?

Potassium salts of fatty acids is what the label lists as the active ingredient on Safer's Insecticidal Soap. However, regular liquid soap works just as well. The soap spreads over the leaves and clogs the breathing apparatus of the spider mites.
The key to success in using any soaps, is to get total coverage of all leaf and stem surfaces of the entire plant, as it is the mites that you don't see that will survive and reproduce. Make sure all plant surfaces are dripping wet with the soapy solution.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
