QuestionI just purchased a braided money tree. Is this a poisonous plnt to cats? The last time I brought a bamboo plant home, m cat thought it was lunch. The trunk is about 4 or 5 inches above the soil line. Thank you.
AnswerLinda,
Another rarity in the houseplant world, Pachira aquatica is a slightly bizarre plant that is generally sold as three or more stems that have been plaited together to form a single trunk. Out of this trunk grows large leaves composed of 6-9 leaflets. A great conversation point as a specimen plant.
Site: Bright indirect light or part sun.
Temp: Average warmth. Not too hot over the winter (Keep away from radiators).
Water: This plant likes to stay moist. Water frequently not letting the compost dry throughout the summer, less over winter. Keep humidity high by misting and or placing in a pebble tray.
Feeding: A very weak liquid feed every month or so over the growing season.
Tip: It will never flower indoors but its flower is still worth looking at click here.
I could not find it on any poisonous plant lists. It is safe for your cat but if your cat shreds the leaves it does not easily recuperate and it will destroy it's attractive look so I would try to put it where the cat will not get to it. Good luck.
