Pale yellow leaves in African Violets

Question
Hi Patricia,
I have asked the question before of someone else and the reply was that the plants need more light.
They had been moved to this window a while back which has as much or more light, and then began having the leaves turn a pale yellow with no other symptoms of disease. Nothing else in their care has been changed.
Should I move them back to the other window, add another light, or could there be something else causing the problem.
Thanks for your help
Mary

Answer
Mary,
Saying that your plant needs more light seems a rather pat answer to something that could be more serious. I'm not certain of the cause of the leaves color without seeing them.  There are several causes of pale leaves, including too much sun, too bright a light, even severe water spotting,  but if YOU feel your violets may be getting too much direct light you should move them to a filtered light area such as in front of a sheer curtain.  It is also possible that your violets have a deficiency of a particular vitamin.  So, try moving the violets to a spot like before, don't give fertilizer for a few weeks.  Try those things in an "elimination" type of treatment.  If nothing seems to improve, email me back, and maybe we can figure out what is wrong.
PS:  When I mentioned water spotting above, that can occur when cold or cool water is used to water violets.  It is very doubtful that entire leaves will be discolored from contact with cold water.
