QuestionI believe this plant to be a dracena marginata that has been around 10 years (approx), in an office setting, near south window. The leaves are getting lighter green with time on all 3 stems. Some leaves also turn brown and fall off. The container is about 11 inches around--how much water should it be getting per week.
AnswerHi Betty,
Dracaena marginatas use less and less water as they age, especially in office environments where they often receive less than ideal light.
Allow the soil to dry out about half way down into the pot before watering. That may take a couple of weeks. Then water it thoroughly until a bit of water runs through the drainage holes.
Ten-year old marginatas are often overgrown if they have never been cut back. Consider cutting one or more of the stems back by half or more. This may help rejuvenate new growth on the stems.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
