QuestionI have an 8-month old who is about to become mobile. I have a very large rubber tree - is it poisonous? I know it has a white liquid that comes out when a leaf is torn off.
Thank you!
AnswerHi Karen,
Yes, the white sap that is inside a rubber plant is a skin and mucous membrane irritant and can also be toxic if ingested.
As a parent, I moved ALL of my plants out of reach of my toddler so he would not be tempted and I would not have to keep telling him "No!"
Although that "explore-everything-with-your-mouth" stage seems to go on forever at the time, in fact, it passes fairly quickly and it won't be long before your plants will no longer be something that your child wants to explore with his/her mouth.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
