QuestionI received 3 plants from a recent funeral. I think I can keep the ivy alive. My question about it is will it be ok in a bedroom that doesn't get much sunlight? The other 2 I'm not sure of I think one of them is some kind of calathea. The 3rd on I have no idea. It has thick medium sized leaves kind of spoon shapes & slightly scalloped around the edges. It had lot of beautiful little pinkish purple flowers which attracted me to this particular plant. My question is after they all dried up i kind of pulled them all off leaving long stems sticking out above the leaves. It looks like there may be new leaves forming. Do I cut these stems down to where the leaves start or leave them alone?
Thank you soo much in advance!
AnswerHi Ronnie,
Ivies need a lot of bright indirect light and do not do well in low light. They do best right on a north windowsill or a few feet back from an east or west window. Your Calathea also needs lots of bright indirect light.
Your third plant is probably a Kalanchoe and it definitely needs a lot of direct sun if it is to do well. Be sure to let the soil dry out almost completely in between waterings and keep it in a very small pot. The long flower stems should be pruned all the way back.
