Questionhow do you reduce the height of an outside yucca plant from 14ft to 8ft . keeping some of the frones, can it be done this time of year.( middle of may) i ve been told if i cut it wrong i could kill it, can you tell me how is best to cut the plant.
AnswerAndy,
There is no way to cut it wrong, relax. Just take tree pruners, a saw or a knife and cut it off where you want it to start growing again. You could even cut it down to 4-6 feet and it will start growing a whole new top soon. You can cut the top part that you cut off into sections and plant them in the ground or in pots and this time of year they should root easily. Just keep track of which end is the lower end. The sections will not grow if you put them in the soil upside down.
Good luck.
