Broken jade plant

Question
We have a large jade plant which was knocked off its table and several large pieces broke off.  If we splint it and try to put it back together, could that work?  What should we try securing the splints with?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Robyn,

No, splinting and grafting will not work. You can take the broken off pieces and after they have dried overnight insert them in a small pot filled with a damp mix of half peat moss and half perlite. They will develop their own root systems in a couple of months and eventually will become new plants.

Jades benefit from pruning anyway, so your original Jade should be fine. New growth will come in just below where the stems broke off. In time, you will hardly notice the difference.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
