Dear Will;

I have a Dracanea Massangeana species about 2 years. The plant grewn up well in 40 lt pot. It has 2 branches on one stem about 3 ft height. The plant is started to have buds at the end of the branches. Do I have any chance to cultivate a new plans from that buds.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Murat,

I am not sure if there is a translation problem here, but a "bud" normally refers to a flower bud. In the case of a Dracaena massangeana, the bud becomes a flower spike with sticky, sweet-smelling flowers attached to it. These flower buds and spikes cannot be used to propagate new plants as any seeds that form are sterile.

Please let me know if you are referring to something other than flower buds.

Dear Will;

Thanks for the answer. Yes you are right about the flower buds. Is there any risk to loose the branches of the plant because of the flowering.

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Murat,

Sometimes the flower spike causes the leaves closest to where it emerges to grow in undersized and a bit distorted, but it otherwise has no effect on the plant. Enjoy the flowers!
