QuestionHi,
My plants have suffered over the winter, become leggy and now the leaves are dying from the edges and this is progressing up the stem. The healthy leaves at the top become wrinkled and sl. bubbled (hard to describe) and then start to go brown at the edges. I have now sprayed with insecticide (I should have done this sooner but I had run out)I have taken one cutting but the same process appears to be happening. I want to take more cuttings in case the plants die. Thanks. Les Wray
AnswerHi Les,
I am not sure just what your question is, but I will send along some information that I hope will prove useful. Let me know if I have missed something.
Geraniums should be pruned back very sharply at the end of the winter. this is the only way to eliminate the legginess and to encourage compact new growth. It is a bit late right now, but I suggest you go ahead and do the pruning now.
Your description of the symptoms is too vague for me to make an accurate assessment. If you can email a photo to my address below, then I can better help you.
There is nothing in your description that suggests pests to me, so I am not sure why you think you should have sprayed them with a pesticide.
The best cuttings are tip cuttings that are no more than 4-5 inches in total length. The cuttings should have healthy stems if you want them to root.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
