QuestionI have a peace lilly that is about 7 years old and is getting leggie. The stalk at the base is about 8 inches and is now laying over sideways and is no longer supporting the leaves. What should I do to get them upright? The plant no longer looks happy, laying over on the sides of the pot and all. The pot seems to be the right size based on what I have read. Thank you for your help,
Derrel
AnswerHi Derrel
Seven years is quite old for a potted peace lily. Congratulations to you!
The settling of the soil after 7 years is normal. Try adding some porous, peat-base potting soil around the base of the stem while you hold it in an upright position. Press the soil down firmly so that it holds the stem in place.
You could also try staking it. The only other alternative is to cut the stem off just above the roots and try rooting it in water and starting it over. This is a risky procedure and does not always work.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
