QuestionI just recently recieved a peace lily plant and know very little about plant care in general. My concern is one day it looks fine and then the next its drooping and seems not healthy. I've read the tag, but it is vague. Moderate sunlight, how much is that exactly? I'm keeping the soil moist and am not useing tap water. I have been using bottled and was planning to use rain water. That is what my grandmother always used and her plants were very healthy. Which would you recomend? Right now it's being kept in front of my sliding glass door which faces the east. Other than how much sun, I was wondering about ideal temperatures, what would be too hot or too cold? I would really appreciate your advice.
Thank you,
Heather
AnswerHeather,
As far as temperature is concerned if you are fine the plant is too, if you are cold it is too cold for the plant. They are mappy around 70 degrees.
As for light, it does not like the sun actually shining on it but it loves bright light. Move it to the south edge of the window.
It sounds like your biggest problem is too much water. Bottled or rain water is fine. If the soil is constantly moist the roots begin to rot and the plant gets droopy. This plant needs to dry out totally between waterings so the roots can breath for a day or two before it is watered again. If it gets droopy pick it up before you water it. If it is heavy do not water. If it seems bone dry and it is light weight then water it. I water mine no more often than ever 7-8 days, in the winter no more often than every 14-18 days. If you cut back on the water it may droop for a few days but it will perk up. More plants are killed by too much water than by too little. Good luck.
