QuestionHello Will
As per the subject, I have a Yucca - that was recently repotted - and it has started to develop brown leaves, which fall off within a few days. Before repotting the plant was very healthly and seem to grow very rapidly.
Can you shed any light on the problem?
Many thanks
Chris
AnswerHi Chris,
Like most people, you won't believe it, but your answer is in your question. The plant was fine before you repotted and started having problems after repotting.
Repotting unnecessarily is the single most common and least understood cause for plant failure. Plants do best when they are quite potbound and they fare poorly when they are overpotted. Potted plants do not like "lots of space" for their roots. In fact, excess soil around roots retains moisture for too long and causes roots to rot.
I suggest that you undo your repotting, remove all of the soil that you added, and put your Yucca back into its original pot or one of comparable size. This will not restore the already damaged leaves, but it will protect against further root rot.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
