QuestionHello, I live in Va. last week the weather was nice so I placed 4 hanging baskets outside and intended to bring them in that weekend before the temp. dropped. Well, I forgot and they were exposed to the overnight cold, I am guessing in the low 30's. I have brought the plants back in but they are frozen, and mushy. What if anything can I do to help them? I know little about plant care and have no idea if the roots have been damaged. thanks
Answerprobably too late to correct your problem. prune them back to healthy branches if you have any. see if they releaf. if they do you will see new growth. on days above 50 put them outside. once the temp reaches 40 bring them in for the evening. get to a local garden center and quiz them on indoor houseplant care while there. i'm in southern NJ. in NJ you really can't put tropical plants out overnite until mid-may w/out worrying about too cool of temps.
in VA you might be able to do it earlier depending on where you are in VA.
good luck.
