Question I have a plant here that i think is on the verge of dieing i have had a grow light on it for maybe a month now but NO progress on that so far, is there anything i can do to bring my plant back to life?
My Grandmother gave me this plant in Jan 1993 when i moved down to La Veta, Co to help her & to get back on our feet & it was doing well all this time & now it is VERY close to dieing i had it sitting in the living room up in the big picture window but because of this house is pointing in the wrong direction this house inside doesn't get enough light for my plants so i waited a bit too long to get a grow light & now my plant is dieing what if anything can i do to save it & bring it back to life?
OR if it does die where can i purchase another one? i don't know if these kind of plants are easy to find OR hard to fine, but it gets BIG & spreads out & gets clusters of pink like heart shaped flowers on it.
How unique is this plant?
When & where can i get another one if this one dies on me?
AnswerHi Cheryl,
Your plant is an Angel-winged Begonia. I am not familiar with your area, but I am sure there are online retailers that sell this plant, as it is not at all rare.
Like all Begonias, yours requires lots of direct sunlight to do well. It should be located on your sunniest windowsill. The grow light will help if it is kept on for at least 8 hours every day and is within a few feet of the plant. However, natural light is preferred.
Without seeing the plant, I cannot tell whether it is too late to salvage it. If it is long and leggy, you might consider pruning the leggy stems back to a height of 3 to 6 inches.
If you would lie to email a photo to my address below, I might be able to provide some additional information.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
