repotting during winter

Question
Good day: I live in a basement apartment with a small window,so I keep my plants under artificial light.I do have city water but I have been watering my plants with bottled water.I received 4 plants as a gift and I need to know if I can repot them eventhough it's winter.I have a peace lily that is in a 4 inch pot with drain hole ,a dumb cane,a prayer plant and a draecena that are in 3 inch ceramic container with no drain hole. It's difficult to know if there watered enough, I think that they need to be repotted but unsure. They seem to be doing ok but I did notice that the leaves on my prayer plant are growing quite a bit but they seem to be getting smaller. If I can repot them at this time can you also give me advice on what kind of soil mix I need.Thanking you in advance Carol from Toronto,Canada

Answer
Carol,

Yes, I would repot them, now, especially the ones in the pot with no drainage. However do not put inay of them in pots larger than 6 inches. Because you are repottting them in a semi dormant period be very careful to not overwater them after you repot them.

As for soil I usually buy whatever potting soil is on sale and buy an extra bag of perlite, that's the stuff that looks like little white styrofoam beads. Then mix 3 parts of potting soil to 2 parts of perlite. That will give your plants much better drainage.

Good luck!
Darlene
