QuestionMy boss just moved into a dark office with one window in the west side. He has a bonzai tree in a pot 3"X6" we need to know how to water it for sure and how often.
The very ends are turning brown and very dry, when touching they fell off. I don't have a photo, but it looks like the china evergreen tree.
Thanks, Bonnie
AnswerHi Bonnie,
I have to know what plant species your boss' bonsai is to be able to help you. The word bonsai simply refers to the miniaturized way that it was grown, but doesn't reveal anything about its identity or its cultural needs. Quality bonsais always come with a tag that includes its species name.
Unfortunately, most bonsai are native to temperate zone areas and require cold winter temps (40 degrees or below) in winter in order to survive. This is true of evergreen types. Only tropical bonsais will survive in our warm indoor winter temperatures. I hope your boss' is tropical, but I suspect it is not, in which case cold temps are a requirement for its survival.
I wish I had better news for you. If you can find a way to email a photo to me at my address below, perhaps I can confirm its identity and let you know its requirements.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
