China Doll singed leaves

Question
If the newly emerging leaves are getting brown edges, that may be a more serious problem. In that case, some of the roots have been damaged either from severe mineral build up in the soil or from root rot.

What do I do to correct the above situation?

Thank you, Delaina Stevens

Answer
Hi Delaina,

If you have been using hard water to water your China Doll, then you should flush lots of clear (filtered or distilled) water through the soil to remove the excess minerals in the soil. Although this will not repair the already damaged leaves, if it is the source of the problem, future new growth should be healthy.

Roor rot is harder to deal with because it depends on the extent of the damage already done to the roots. If you have moved your China doll into a larger pot in the past two years, that may be the cause of the root rot. In that case, removing excess soil and moving the plant into a smaller pot may be necessary. If you send me a photo of plant and pot to my address below, I may be able to tell you if this is a problem.

If your China Doll is properly potted, then it is important to water it only when the top inch of soil is dry to the touch and never leave it standing in a saucer of water.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
