QuestionI am not sure what type of plant I have. It is in a pot about 12" in diameter. It has large long leaves - no flowers. The tips of the leaves always turn brown. I have tried watering often, watering rarely, lots of sun, limited sun, plant food, etc. No matter what I do the leaves turn brown at the tips - though the rest of the plant appears to be healthy. What do you think I'm doing wrong?
AnswerHi Marisa,
I cannot give you a specific answer without knowing the identity of your plant. Brown tips have many causes. The most common are using hard water to water the plants, excess fertilizer, allowing the soil to get too dry or keeping it too wet, and inadequate light. So there's a lot to pick from.
Can you email a photo to me at

Otherwise, you will have to send me a very detailed description of the plant and tell me what kind of light and water it has been getting.
