QuestionOk....so even if it looked healthy when I got it an it did good for about a month at home it could have been damaged? I stupidly put it outside but left it out to long and it got the afternoon sun and got burned up all over. How do you cut them back?

I have a pothos (epipremnum)is what the tag says that I bought from walmart. it was one of the larger plants. It was in a hanging container outside under that mesh overhang that they have in their garden center. The plant does'nt seem to be thriving and a lot of the leaves have brown spots or leaves that look loke they've been torn. I've followed the directions on the tag. I have 4 small plants thaT I got from cuttings from a friends plant and Ive potted them and they seem fine.

Leo,
Your pothos plant could have been damaged by either wind or sun burn before you bought it. I assume you are in a tropical location since it was outside. I would encourage you to prune it back and to below the damage then put it in the sunniest location you have indoors. Give it a dose of fertilizer once a month year around. A water soluable fertilizer like Miracle Grow is a good easy one. Do not water it until it is very dry and light weight. That could take up to 2 weeks depending on where you live and how much light it gets. Then water it thoroughly when you water it so that all the soil in the pot is moist. Then let it dry out again until it is very light weight. It is a plant that likes wet then dry cycles and as much light as possible but in full sun outdoors it can get burned in full sun unless you acclimate it gradually. It is best to hang it in a shade tree when you put it outdoors.

AnswerLeo,
Just cut it off right above where a leaf stem joins the vine with a sharp pair of scissors. Just prune it below the last burned damaged leaf. If they are all damaged it can be cut back to the surface of the soil and it will still send out new shoots and grow back. But if you cut it back that severely it will take longer for it to grow back. Be sure to fertilize it regularly so it will grow back faster. When you prune vines like this they usually send out 2 side shooots and you end up with a lot thicker nicer plant.
Good luck.
