QuestionI have a Nephthytis that is about 12 yrs old. I recently
transplanted it to a larger pot. I used Fox Farm. the inner leaves
started to turn brown all the way to the root,. around the whole
plant. Did i perhaps do something durning the transfer to
another pot. there is only the top left of standing green leaves.
more have also died. Should I replant this to a different pot. I
was thinking it was not draining properly. what do I do to save
this plant from this.
Thank you

AnswerHi Phyllis,
Believe it or not, the problem stems from the repotting. Mature plants reach their maximum pot size within a year or two and should not be repotted again. Not only does the repotting cause trauma, but the added soil retains moisture for too long and causes the roots to rot. This is the single most common cause of plant problems.
You can try unpotting and removing all of the soil that you added and moving the plant back into its original pot. If the roots are not already badly rotted, then the plant may gradually recpver.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
