QuestionI have a jade plant that has powdery mildew all over the leaves.
When I wipe it (with my finger) the leaf is black. What is the best
way to treat this without harming the plant? Also, should I move
it away from my other plants which include spider plants, african
violets and orchids?
Your help is very much appreciated. I would like to save this
plant, it's several years old and was given to me by my Aunt.
Thank you! Bobbi
AnswerHi Bobbi,
A solution of baking soda (I TBSP) to a quart of water with a squirt of liquid soap usually works well and is safe to use on your plants. Be sure to spray all leaf and stem surfaces thoroughly and also the surface of the soil. Respray again at the first sign of the return of the mildew.
Spider plants are not prone to powdery mildew, but African violets are very vulnerable and Orchids are somewhat susceptible. I suggest that you spray the latter two, as well, to be on the safe side.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
