QuestionHi I dont know what is going on with my dracaena massangeana? Like I said eairlier a couple of leaves look like their slowly turning a light shade of black from the tips inward. I also noticed that the new growth is really small and turing brown. Also there is a white film starting inside the plant where the new growth is. And there are light brown lines or rings on some of the leaves. Whats going on and how can i help fix these problems? I sent pictures of the problem areas.
Im also afraid the 10" pot its in is way too large, the soil seems to never dry and the plant is really heavy. Should i put it into a smaller pot or just wait untill it dries out to water it again?
Thank you very much Lindsay
AnswerHi Lindsay,
I don't see the shades of black you referred to.
I had assumed that the whitish film was pesticidal residue that was not removed prior to sale. Wipe it off and let me know if any more develops.
The brown lines on the leaves in the last photo are from physical damage - creasing or cutting of the leaves with a sharp object.
I am most concerned about the new leaves that are dying before they emerge. I am quite sure that is related to the soil that is not drying out. So, yes, you should downsize it to a pot that fits the original rootball after you remove the soil that was added when it was repotted into its current pot. Let's hope that the roots have not already rotted too badly.
