QuestionThe plant has a barky skinny stem with lots of leafs. The leaves are dark green and purple colour. The peppers are small like miniature jalopenos about 1 inch in length. The Peppers are very red and I currently have 2 little purple ones growing on the plant. I was just wondering if the peppers are edible.
AnswerKatrina,
Yes, all decorative peppers are edible no matter what color, but they are very hot. I use them all the time in cajun cooking in my northern Indiana home. The smaller they are the hotter they are.
Just a note, there is a plant, the Jerusalem Cherry, that looks a little bit like a pepper plant but it's fruits are round and bright orange. That plant is highly poisonous.
Your pepper can also be potted and taken indoors and kept like a houseplant all winter indoors and it will produce even more the second year. Just keep it on the dry side during the winter. Good luck.
