QuestionI have a Clivia Miniata that I purchesed in bloom. I let the shiny, red seed pods stay on the plant for over a year and then cut them off and just set them on the table next to the plant. Now, many months later, they are shriveled and brown....and sprouting! Each wrinkled brown kernel has a tiny, fat Clivia leaf coming out of the side of it. My question is, what do I do next? I am into growing plants from seed, but on this baby I am clueless. Thanks. Also thanks for your help on the Turtleback.....for me and my daughter both!
AnswerCharlene,
If they are sprouting plant them all in a fine potting soil in a 4 inch pot. Then treat them as you do the adult plant except don;'t let them stay quite as dry over the winter. Watch them closely so the leaves don't shrivel. If it looks like they are really dry then water them a bit. Good luck. I planted some a month or so ago right after I harvested them and they haven't sprouted yet.
