QuestionDarlene, I work in a large office environment and there is an office plant that everyone grows from the seeds it produces. I have asked what it is called. Some say a Jacob's ladder, some say a Corporate ladder. Ha! I have searched for Jacob's ladder and it is not that. So I will try to describe it, in hope that you can help identify it. The mature plant can get to be 4 ft tall. Leaves grow straight from a center stalk and are not on stems. Leaves are long rounded ovals, medium green, with distinct lighter veining. The flower is small, close to the stalk and hardly noticable, and the seeds pop out away from the plant when ripe. The seeds take about 6 weeks to germinate and the early leaves form pairs that are opposite each other on the stalk. These plants grow well with only floresant lighting.
AnswerStasia,
Someone described a plant similar to this one to me recently and I could not figure it out. Is there any possibility that someone in the office has a digital camera they can bring in and take a picture of it and email it to me at
[email protected] ? Otherwise send me a couple of seeds and I will try growing it and then get it identified.
My mailing address is Darlene Kittle, 17725 Lima Road, Huntertown, IN 46748.
A digital picture will be the fastest way for me to try to ID it for you. Sorry I can't do better with the description, it just doesn't sound like any of the plants that I have ever raised or that I am familiar with.
