Peace Lily HELP

Question
I have a peace lily in my office at work. It is in a 10 inch pot. The root ball is only 2 inches. It has about a 3 inch trunk from the dirt up to were the leaves start growing out, but this is green from where the old folage has died and been cut back. This is a medium leaf variety, but has not been producing very large leafs lately, most are very small and very low. This plant seems to be very unhealthy but is still producing flowers. It gets plenty of indirect light and watered lightly every 1-2 days. I don't understand why it seems to be clumping instead of growing tall. Can you provide any help?

Answer
Hi Tami,

Your description is confusing to me. A 2-inch root ball cannot support a 3-inch trunk. Peace lilies don't have trunks, so I am not sure what you are describing.

It would be best if you could e-mail a photo to me at the address below.

I would also need a more specific description of "plenty of indirect light." How close is the nearest window? Which direction does the window face? Is the window covered at all during the day?

In the interim, I can tell you that the pot is way too big for such a small rootball. The large pot coupled with your frequent watering suggests to me that the roots are slowing rotting and that is why the plant is behaving as it is.

I look forward to your reply so I can provide a better answer for you.
