QuestionMy mother says you should not repot a plant when it has flowers on it and should wait until the flowers dry out, but my begonia is outgrowing its pot and it has beautiful orange flowers, what should I do? I cannot leave it in its small pot. HELP
AnswerSilvia,
Carefully remove it from the small pot and put it in a larger pot but do not disturb its roots. They will gradually grow out into the new soil. Do not move it to a pot with a diameter more than 4 inches larger than the old pot. Buy a bag of perlite and mix extra perlite in with the soil when you repot it. Mix 2 parts of soil and 1 part of perlite. It is early enough in the growing season that it should be able to handle growing new roots and continue flowering. Good luck.
