blooming Maranta leuconeura

Question
Good afternoon Mr. Creed,
Recently my Prayer Plant has begun to produce these lovely little lavendar flowers.  What I am wondering, is should I snip the blooms immediately to conserve the plant's energy, or am I allowed to leave them for their subtle beauty?  I'm so excited that one of my houseplants actually bloomed; I must be doing something right!  Ahem.  Also, I really need to know if the Mets are going to go all the way this year(boo Yankees!).
Thanks a whole bunch a lot,
Amy

Answer
Dear Ms. Raine,

Such a pleasure to hear from you again and how appropriate that I should receive your inquiry on this rainey first day of Spring. I am particularly impressed that you know the proper botanical name and spelling for the more commonly named prayer plant.

The Maranta flowers are so beautiful and delicate that I cannot imagine anyone wanting to remove them prematurely. Contary to conventional wisdom, letting the flowers stay on the plant will not use up energy. In fact, keeping them will help to energize your positive relationship with your Maranta. Clearly, you are doing right by this plant and it is returning its appreciation to you through its flowers. You deserve to be both excited and commended!

I divine that you must be a resident of Queens, not the Bronx. As someone who lives in more neutral territory (Manhattan), I am a recovering Yankee fan who became addicted as a youth and am now a 5-step Met fan. As to their "going all the way," I must say that they are more virtuous than that and will wait at least until the second date.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions or personal problems that you would like to share with me.

Regards,
Mr. W.Creed, Interior Landscaper
