QuestionI had a plant that was given to me when my mother passed away that I just loved. I had never seen anything like it. I moved to Arizona from Kansas in November and I was affraid to take it with me because of the weather. (My friend is caring for it till this Summer, but I do not think it will make it that long. She refuses to take it out of her very cold basement.) I have no idea what kind it is and I would like to try and replace it. I know, I am crazy. It looks like a peace lilly or peace plant. It blooms a flower like that, but only once in a while. The leaves of the plant itself is very unusual looking. Almost wilted with different shades of green. Do you have any idea what that could be. I am sorry, I know it is not much to go on, but I am hoping that by some chance, you might be able to help. If I can get her to send me a pic, I will send it to you.
AnswerMeg,
I suspect that your plant is a Chinese Evergreen, the Latin name is Aglaonema "Silver King". I am not sure what you mean by,"The leaves of the plant itself is very unusual looking. Almost wilted with different shades of green."? The Chinese Evergreen leaves are varigated. It is a very hardy plant so there is a chance it will survive the cold basement.
The following website has a picture and more information:

Please let me know if that is the plant. Good luck.
