AnswerHi Sandra,
Is your Yucca really only 4 1/2 inches high? If so, the 12 inch pot is way too big for it. A plant that size should be in a 4 or 6 inch pot. The extra soil in a too-large pot will keep the soil fron drying out properly in between waterings.
I sugest that you unpot the plant, remove the excess soil, and put the Yucca into the smallest pot that the roots will fit into snugly. Use a potting mix that has lots of perlite mixed into it so that it drains easily.
Yuccas do best in very bright indirect light with a few hours of direct sun each day. A north, east, or west windowsill would be best. Yucca is not particularly cold-sensitive, but protect it from freezing temps.
Water your Yucca whenever the top quarter of the soil feels dry. Avoid using hard water. Fertilize very sparingly. Low humidity is not a problem.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
