QuestionI live in Denver and have a south-facing back den with 15ft. windows. I'd like something really tall that's hardy and can withstand full sun. What would you suggest?
AnswerHi Sarah,
Ficus benjamina is the best choice. They thrive in full sunlight, come in heights from a few feet to 20+ feet, look tree-like, and grow rapidly. Although they tend to shed leaves for several months after being relocated, once they are adapted to their new environment, they are virtually indestructible as long as they get enough light.
There are other species, including some palms, that would also do well in your environment. Let me know if the Ficus does not suit you. If it does, I have written an article on the care of Ficus trees that I can e-mail to you.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
