QuestionDarlene,
I Have a huge Split leaf Philadendron that I have had for 3 Years and it is in the largest pot I can find. I think it is root bound .Can I split it ? How do I do it and when is a good time? It stays outside during summer and inside during winter. Thanks for your time.
AnswerMelanie,
There are 2 plants known as split leaf philodendron.
1. Monstera deliciosa (picture at this Website:

2. Philodendron Selloum (picture at this website:

The second plant Philodendron selloum cannot be divided unless there are 2 plants in one pot, then thos can be separated. The first plant Monstera deliciosa is a large vine and also cannot be divided unless there is more than 1 vine in the pot.
However there is no reason to attempt to divide this plant, either of these plants do not mind being rootbound and can be kept in the same pot for 20 years or more. The only reason to repot one to a larger pot is because you want the plant to grow larger. With proper light, water and fertilizer it will remain healthy. Good luck.
